– Om Kumi Kawaji Edström –
Born in Tokyo, graduated from Bunka Fashion College, worked as a member of the design team for ”Yohji Yamamoto International” from 1983 to 1987 for the fashion shows in Paris. Experienced ”The Japanese revolution in Paris fashion” with Yohji Yamamoto. Lived and worked in NY as a chief pattern maker for Michael Leva and freelanced for some other companies from 1989 to 1993. Living in Stockholm Sweden, working on own lady’s collection ”kumi e-k”, men’s collection ” Kuu and Koo”, “Acne”, and dance costumes, and as a designer for “Stutterheim Raincoats”. Working as a guest lecturer of fashion theory “Decostruction in fashion” and a draping workshop in the textile department of Konstfack (University College of Arts, Crafts and Design) in Stockholm, Beckman’s College of Design in Stockholm, The Swedish School of Textiles, University of Borås, and Tillskärarakademin in Stockholm and Gothenberg, Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Art. Guest lecturer at Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities in Stockholm, Stockholm University Centre for Fashion Studies in Stockholm.
